Giving Back With Backpacks 2018

Giving Back With Backpacks 2018

For the past 20 years, The Christian Assembly (TCA) Summer Learning Program has supported the children of Ascension and surrounding parishes. Eartha Rayborn, founder and overseer of the program, ensures children are taught the curriculum for the upcoming school year with an intentional focus on leadership and character development.

For many years, Rubicon has provided food and school supplies for TCA’s Summer Learning Program, and this year is no exception.

In May 2018, Rubicon employees helped deliver more than $5000 worth of food to TCA for the children to have hot lunches every day.  On July 18, 2018, Rubicon provided backpacks and supplies to each child for their upcoming school year.

“Rubicon’s mission, vision and values are summed up in what we call our Unifying Operational Purpose, ‘One family, committed to excellence, delivering specialty chemicals that improve lives across the globe’.  “Improving lives across the globe” starts with giving to our local community and those that serve it so well.  We believe in the program at TCA because Ms. Rayborn and her staff put forth great effort to be a catalyst for positive change in the community.” — Tanya Stilley, HR Representative.

Rubicon Welcomes Our Near Neighbors

Rubicon Welcomes Our Near Neighbors

Twice a year Rubicon hosts its Near Neighbor luncheon for local non-profit organizations. Some non-profits represented are Darrow Citizens United, The Christian Assembly, The Arc of East Ascension, Caring Parents and more. This event allows for an open discussion of the needs of upcoming community programs.

Rubicon provides an array of support to these organizations throughout the year, such as providing back-to-school supplies for children in need, food for educational programs and giveaways during the holidays for the elderly.

Rubicon is honored and privileged to be a part of the local heartbeat of this community and look forward to partnering with them for years to come.

Rubicon Reaches $1 Million in Donations To Mary Bird Perkins

The 17th annual  Rubicon Golf Tournament to support Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center was held on April 17, 2018, at the University Club in Baton Rouge.  This year’s tournament was a huge success, hitting a threshold of $1 Million donated to this worthwhile cause.

In conjunction with the golf tournament, Rubicon has given to MBP through its successful employee-giving campaigns and annual contributions for the past 25 years.

The funds raised and donated to MBP help support advanced cancer care for the people of our community.  Giving to this cause also supports Rubicon’s Unifying Operational Purpose to “…improve lives across the globe,”  and that starts right here at home.

A league of volunteer pilots is serving Louisiana in a remarkable way.  The organization Pilots for Patients, established in 2008 and based in Monroe, is flying patients in need of treatment and diagnosis to specialized facilities—at no cost.

The non-profit organization is working on its 10th year of successful missions in which they have completed more than 4,000 flights. There are currently 140 volunteer pilots on the rolls for the organization, more than 80 of whom flew a mission in 2017. Each mission is completely covered by the pilot and they receive no compensation—yes, even down to the fuel.

The flights are organized through a database on the Pilots for Patients website, where pilots can pick certain missions that fit their schedule, as well as a form for patients in need of assistance to fill out.

Senior Reliability Engineer and Volunteer Pilot – Mark Blair

Rubicon Senior Reliability Engineer, Mark Blair, is a Pilot for Patients volunteer and has been flying since age 18. He found out about Pilots for Patients from his wife who found a brochure for the organization in a local airport.

“To me, it’s a form of Christian ministry,” Blair says. “To help your neighbor—similar to the good Samaritan—helping those who are medically needy gives me a good reason to fly and help someone at the same time.”

Seeking Expansion

Pilots for Patients is currently looking to recruit volunteer pilots to compensate for the growing number of missions. The organization hopes to expand its outreach to more areas of Louisiana that may not be familiar with who they are. All you need to qualify to become a volunteer pilot is 250 hours of flying experience and to own an aircraft—or have the accessibility to rent one.

After The Great Flood of 2016—Chem Friends is Back!

After The Great Flood of 2016—Chem Friends is Back! Troy Spears, Craig Billiot, Kelli Buratt and Margie Bergeron welcome students to this year's Chem Friends.

Chem Friends was launched in 1997 to increase awareness of science and chemistry among our local middle school students. This two-day event includes industry leaders that impress students with hands-on experiments like creating silly putty, slime, lava lamps, soft foam (courtesy of Rubicon) and much more!

Previously, this annual event was held at the Gonzales Civic Center on Irma Blvd, but after the great flood of 2016, the Civic Center has not been able to reopen.

For the 2018 Chem Friends event, industry leaders traveled to various Ascension Parish middle schools and showcased their businesses, products and of course, hands-on experiments.
