Garrett Graves at Rubicon
On April 20th, the Geismar site received a special visit from our U.S. Congressman Garrett Graves to see our facility and learn more about the impact we have here in Louisiana and across our global businesses. The purpose of Congressman Graves’ visit was a follow-up to LCA meetings held earlier this year In Washington D.C. with General Manager, Mark Dearman, and our Huntsman Governmental Affairs team.
While in Washington, Mark met with Congressman Graves and several other members of the LA Congressional delegation to discuss current issues and concerns for the Louisiana Chemical Industry. Congressman Graves received a tour of the site and visited the MDI-3 control room, where he was able to visit with the operating team and see our technology at work.
The visit was concluded with a town hall meeting with many of our associates, whereby Congressman Graves shared his unique perspective on current events and answered questions on a broad range of topics including healthcare reform, foreign policy, defense, taxes, and the environment. Congressman Graves thoroughly enjoyed his visit and we hope to have him back again soon.
Rubicon Funds Scholarships
Rubicon, a long-time RPCC partner and RPCC Foundation supporter donated $9,000 to the RPCC Foundation—funding two $2,000 Rubicon REAL (Rubicon Empowering Adult Learning) Awards to assist students with educational expenses while working at least 20 hours/week. These scholarships are merit-based and primarily focused on adult learners, typically considered non-traditional who desire to continue their education majoring in Process Technology or Instrumentation Technology. The remaining funds will be utilized to fund scholarships for students majoring in the industrial fields.
Sponsoring Kids This Holiday Season
Members from our Rubicon family adopted 40 kids this holiday season through the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Christmas Crusade. Employees purchased bikes, clothing, toys and so much more to give to these children in need. Thank you to our employees who supported our community through this wonderful program!
Career Advice Important for High School Students
The students in East Ascension High School’s National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core Curriculum enjoyed hearing from our Rubicon team about their personal career experiences, their journeys in the industry and the education routes available. They also talked about plant operations, safety importance and available job options. The students were filled with questions and really engaged in the conversation, so thank you to Ms. Maddie Easley for the invitation!
Cooking for a Good Cause
Our Rubicon family is still talking about how great the Capital Area United Way Jambalaya Jam event was last week! Cooks from around the community gathered together to showcase their jambalaya and small plates—all for a good cause.
Thanks to our cooks, helpers, and volunteers for supporting a great community event! We look forward to next year!
Interns Attend Huntsman Conference
We are pleased to recognize (from left to right): Blair Lentz—PSM Engineer, Brooke Laird—Engineering Intern, and Katie Collins—RBMI Engineer.
Each of these professionals has participated in our summer intern program and recently had the opportunity to attend Huntsman’s Intern Conference in Texas. Thank you for representing the Geismar site and the summer intern program. We are so proud of you!
Telling Our Story at RPCC
This summer five educational panels were installed in the Technical Building at River Parish Community College (RPCC). The panels were installed to educate the students on the history of Rubicon and the polyurethane industry. The panels also feature the two winners of the 2019 Rubicon REAL Awards, a new award given to RPCC technical students classified as non-traditional.
We look forward to continuing the development of our relationship with RPCC through the educational wall sponsorship, the Real Awards, and support in the development of the upcoming Process Equipment Technology plant that will soon allow RPCC students hands-on experience during their course work at RPCC.
Sprinklin’ Reliability Across Geismar
Here at Geismar, we are a part of global efforts, one of which is the Global Reliability Improvement Program. This program is all about global collaboration…creating one global community to share best practices in the areas of mechanical, process and human reliability.
In an effort to remind our associates and contractors on-site about the importance of Reliability, we recently launched our new GRIP Seasoning! We hope to “sprinkle” the message of reliability across our site!
Lasting Partners in The Community—Rubicon And APSO
Every year Rubicon partners with Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Department (APSO) to assist in adopting children in need for their annual Christmas Crusade project. The program collects toys and monetary donations for less fortunate families in the community.
This year Rubicon employees sponsored 40 children and provided them with toys, clothing and games.
